Real Options for City Kids (R.O.C.K.) is an award-winning nonprofit providing hope for children and youth in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley. Our mission is to nurture the healthy development of children by listening attentively to their needs and providing opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access to a range of positive programs. At R.O.C.K., we serve more than 900 children (ages 6-17) with a framework that develops healthy social and emotional skills, instills strong academic behaviors and broadens horizons. Our programs span the entire year and take place during the school day, after school, on weekends, and throughout the summer. Job Title: Family Engagement Coordinator


Pay Rate: $18.50 – $23.00/hour depending on experience


Description: We are the lead nonprofit partner for El Dorado Elementary School, Visitacion Valley Elementary School, and Visitacion Valley Middle School where we host in-school, after-school, weekend and summer programs.  We are excited to bring in an enthusiastic and caring family engagement professional to help with outreach, engagement, and support of our families and broader Visitacion Valley community.  The Family Engagement Coordinator has overall responsibility for the implementation and improvement of R.O.C.K.’s family programs, as well as the creation of new programs in partnership with the Director of Programs. This person will work across our thress school sites, but will have an office at Visitacion Valley Middle School, and will report to the Director of Programs.


Primary Responsibilities:

Description: The primary role of the Family & Community Engagement Coordinator is to strengthen the family and community structure of R.O.C.K.’s participants through a combination of workshops, events, and other resources as needed by the community.

  • Overall management of Family and Community Programs at all R.O.C.K. sites
  • Create and implement programs, events, and resources for the general Visitacion Valley community
  • Create and manage a budget
  • Form positive relationships with parents/guardians of participants, youth participants, volunteers, and community members
  • Facilitate a minimum of three parent/guardian trainings at each school
  • Build positive relationships with agencies and school personnel
  • Attend meetings with Director of Programs, principals, partners, and stakeholders
  • Evaluate, document, and input attendance for family events and workshops
  • Maintain partnership directory
  • Support overall R.O.C.K. Programs
  • Co-plan family events with Outdoor Recreation and Education Director



  • Passion for working with urban youth of color, many of whom are low income and have experienced trauma, and their families
  • Experience engaging with diverse families and community members
  • Experience with facilitation and presentations
  • Strong project management skills
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, or Samoan preferred
  • Reliable means of transportation to and from program sites
  • Must have a valid CA driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must provide proof of a negative TB test within the past four years
  • Must have proof of COVID Vaccinations + Booster
  • Candidates must go through a background check after a conditional offer is made.

This position is full-time beginning immediately. Salary is determined based on experience. Benefits include fully paid health and dental insurance, 401(k) matching, a generous vacation and sick package, and 18 paid holidays per year.
