Real Options for City Kids (R.O.C.K.) is an award-winning nonprofit providing hope for children and youth in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley. Our mission is to nurture the healthy development of children by listening attentively to their needs and providing opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access to a range of positive programs. At R.O.C.K., we serve more than 900 children (grades K-12) with a framework that develops healthy social and emotional skills, instills strong academic behaviors, and broadens horizons. Our programs span the entire year and take place during the school day, after school, on weekends, and throughout the summer. Job Title: After Outdoor Education Curriculum and Teaching Specialist

 

Pay: $20.00 – $25.00/hour depending on experience

 

Hours: 10-12 hours per week

  • 6-10 hours per week on site between the hours of 2pm-6pm
  • Some Saturdays required
  • Flexible or work from home opportunities available outside of required site hours

 

Sites: R.O.C.K. runs in-school, weekend, and after-school programs at 3 school sites (this person would work between all 3 sites)

  • El Dorado Elementary School (K-5 grade) – 70 Delta St, San Francisco
  • Visitacion Valley Elementary School (K-5 grade) – 55 Schwerin St, San Francisco
  • Visitacion Valley Middle School (6-8 grade) – 1971 Visitacion Ave, San Francisco

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, facilitate, and evaluate outdoor education curriculum
  • Work alongside the Outdoor Education and Recreation Director to develop Nature Scouts Program for elementary students
  • Effectively manage classrooms using positive discipline philosophy and restorative practices
  • Attend and assist in facilitation of all scheduled Saturday travel programs or events
  • Assist with planning and attend all five scheduled outdoor adventure trips
  • Yosemite, White Water Rafting, Mountain Camp, Snow Trip and Family Camp
  • Create and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment
  • Develop positive relationships with students, teachers, and staff and maintain positive rapport with parents/guardians
  • Be a leader and role model to youth and co-teacher
  • Set-up and clean-up program spaces
  • Maintain communication with Site Coordinator and Director

 

Requirements:

  • Passion for working with urban youth of color, many of whom are low income and have experienced trauma.
  • Experience working with school-age children
  • Experience designing and implementing curriculum
  • Knowledge of gardening, outdoor education, hiking, nature, or any related field
  • Reliable means of transportation to and from program sites
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, and/or Samoan is a plus
  • Provide proof of a negative TB screen within the past four years
  • Candidates must go through a background check after a conditional offer is made. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction record.
