Job Title: Middle School Fashion and Design Lead
Description: Lead a class for 12-25 students in R.O.C.K.’s After-School Program for middle school students.
Pay: Minimum Wage – $17/hour depending on experience, education, and/or length of time with the organization
Commitment: Program runs January 8, 2018 – June 6, 2018, with opportunity to apply for Summer work.
M, W, Th 2:40 pm – 6:00pm; T & F, 12:50 pm – 6:00pm
Start Date: January 8, 2018
Orientation: TBD upon start date



  • 48 college credits from an accredited college or university OR successful completion of the Instructional Aide Exam
  • 1 year experience in working with children
  • Desire to work with at-risk, inner-city children
  • Sense of humor and recognition of the need to be flexible with youth and any changes made to program
  • Have a reliable means of transportation to and from program
  • Punctual and well-organized
  • Bilingual in Spanish; Cantonese and/or Samoan is a plus



  • Supervising, planning, facilitating and leading activities for up to 20-25 students
  • Teach Social Emotional Learning (Previous experience with SEL is appreciated) and determine students’ social emotional goals and ensure that they’re met
  • Committing to teaching Project-Based Learning in an engaging and creative way
  • Preparing for quarterly youth and staff showcases
  • Some experience/familiarity with both MAC’s and PC’s
  • Facilitating and/or collaborating with partners for various workshops or trainings for participants
  • Managing attendance on a daily basis
  • Creating and maintaining a safe, brave, and respectful learning environment
  • Implementing R.O.C.K. curriculum: Social-Emotional Learning, Behavior Management, Classroom Management, Lesson Planning, and Project-Based Learning
  • YPQA – understanding, discussing, and implementing YPQA requirements in Design and Fashion
  • Willing to help youth develop their artistic eye and creativity with a variety of mediums
  • Being a leader and role model to youth
  • Motivating youth to succeed in their personal and academic life
  • Setting up and cleaning up of program spaces
  • Developing positive relationships with students, teachers, and staff
  • Maintaining communication with MS Program Coordinators
  • Attending all scheduled program events
  • Assisting in planning program wide celebrations
  • Attending bi-weekly check-in meetings with supervisor, dates and times TBA
  • Attending weekly staff meetings; TBA
  • Attending lesson planning meetings; Thursdays from 1:00pm to 2:00pm
  • Plan effectively and being prepared, mentally, physically, and emotionally, on a daily basis



  • Active artist (photographer, animator, illustrator, comic artist, creative writer, etc.)
  • Familiarity with textiles
  • Sewing and design
  • Resourceful and flexible with any and all materials
  • Teaching or Teacher Assisting for 1+ years
  • 1+ years experience with inner-city youth
